OUR ANNUAL AWARD FOR AN ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT FOR RESIDENTS AND FELLOWS

2024 RESEARCH AWARD

The Southern Psychiatric Association (SPA) offers an annual award for an original (unpublished) manuscript concerning basic or clinical research on a topic pertinent to psychiatry. The manuscript must be submitted by a resident in the United States. Literature reviews are excluded from acceptable manuscripts.

ELIGIBILITY

Psychiatric Residents or Fellows are eligible to submit a paper if they have not completed their residency or fellowship by July 13, 2024, and are enrolled in an approved graduate education program in one of the geographic areas from which the membership of the Southern Psychiatric Association is derived. Eligible areas include the entire United States.

  • Travel expenses up to $1,000 to SPA’s Annual Meeting, September 11-14, 2024, at the

  • Recognition for Award Winner’s Training Program

HOW TO APPLY

Applicants should submit the completed manuscript (15 pages maximum) to Janet Bryan at jbryan@sheppardpratt.org (All submissions will receive an email confirmation of receipt.)

The manuscript must be typewritten, double-spaced, and include enough information that indicates that a 30 minute presentation could be derived from the manuscript. Submission must include a cover sheet listing contact information including name, residency program, email, phone, and mailing address.

The abstract should be no longer than two pages, and MUST include: Introduction, Purpose, Methods, Results, Discussion/Conclusions and at least 3 references. Powerpoint outlines will not be accepted. Only one manuscript per applicant will be considered.

TO NOTE

Strong consideration will be given to the timeliness of the topic, applicability to a general psychiatric audience, and originality of the paper. All submissions must be original, not previously published. (The Association may not offer the award if there are no submissions of suitable quality.)

DEADLINE: The final deadline for submission of manuscripts/ abstracts is June 1, 2024, but applicants are encouraged to submit manuscripts as early as possible for consideration by the committee.
